The Laughing Kookaburra is one of the most well-known bird species in Australia.
The laughing kookaburra lives in Australia and New Guinea. It’s famous for its distinctive loud song reminiscent of hearty but hysterical laughter. They live by fresh water sources in natural nests such as hollow trees, and eat fish and small animals. They mate for life, and both parents incubate the eggs and feed the chicks. During the nesting season it is not uncommon that other kookaburras help care for the chicks.
The name Kookaburra is a word borrowed from the Wiradjuri language,”guuguubarra”, which sounds similar to the unique song of this Australian bird. The Laughing Kookaburra is the heaviest bird in the kingfisher family.
The DecoBird Laughing Kookaburra is smaller than its size in real life but it still measures 22cm. At Wildlife Garden we design and produce hand-carved decorative birds representing bird species from all around the world.
