About the American Beaver: The North American beaver is a water dwelling mammal, and it’s the second largest rodent in the world. It has thick, brown fur, and a flat, wide tail, and can grow up to 1 meter in length. Beavers live by lakes and watercourses, where they build dams and nests out of branches of wood. They are excellent swimmers and can stay under water up to 15 minutes. Though they have teeth strong enough to fell trees, the beaver is a vegetarian and prefers eating water lilies.
